Leaders Council

Each chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi has a Leaders Council and a Cabinet. Together these two bodies consist of twenty-eight women, who voluntarily give up portions of their time and energy to serve their chapter. While serving the Tau Omega Chapter, the women in these positions work diligently and enthusiastically to better our chapter and its future. These young women also work together to positively impact Transylvania University as well as the Lexington community. If you have any questions or would like to speak with an officer, please contact President Chloe Bingham or our Chaper Advisor Austin Bellamy!

If someone is interested in running for your position, what tips or any other information would you give her? How would you encourage her?

For anyone considering this office, I think that organization and creative thinking is really important. One of the major responsibilities of VPE is putting together the calendar, so you need to be willing to compromise with other officers and quick thinking enough to solve last minute programming issues. I have really loved this office, and I would definitely recommend it to sisters who want to get more involved in the chapter.

BayLeigh Routt, VP of Communications

Looking back at your freshman self, did you ever expect you’d run for an office, especially this one in particular? Have you learned anything (expected or unexpected)?

Freshman year I think I pictured myself running for a position at some point, but I wasn’t sure which one(s). When I learned more about VPC, I was really eager to give it a shot. I’m glad I did because I’ve really enjoyed holding this position. Technology is continuously growing, so it’s important to try and keep up with it. I think technology, particularly social media, is important for our chapter because it allows us to be able to connect with families, alums, future members, and more. I’m always looking for ways to improve our chapter’s online presence because I want our accomplishments, values, and wonderful sisterhood to shine.

Meagan Taylor, VP of Membership Recruitment

How has AOII helped you grow as a person?

AOII has helped me grow as a person because I have these amazing sisters who push me to be the best that I can be and my sisters are there to support me through the whole process. It has been a sisterhood that fosters people to achieve the best. Like, we say, “Exceed the Expectation.”

What inspired you to run for/take on this position?

I knew I wanted to run for a position in AOII because I wanted to do something big within the chapter. I wanted to be apart of something that I could see our hard work pay off when we go our new members. I know the VP of Membership Recruitment is a big job and a big responsibility but I'm ready to take on this challenge, that will be rewarding in so many ways.

Cassidy Wheeler, Panhellenic Delegate

How has holding this position helped you not only as person but as student?

Being Panhellenic Delegate has really helped me appreciate all the greek organizations on campus beyond AOΠ. Each chapter fulfills a specific purpose, and we all function together to create a fantastic greek system. It has really opened my eyes to all the ways that the chapters better each other and Transy’s campus as a whole.

Olivia Ellis, Philanthropy Chair

What inspired you to run for/take on this position?

As a senior this isn’t my first position in the Tau Omega Chapter, but it is one of my favorites. The office of Philanthropy Chairman has given me the ability not only to serve my community, but to organize the efforts of 80+ other women who all have to goal of making Lexington, their home towns, and the entire world better places. But more than that, I love seeing the faces of my sisters after they’ve given their time, energy, and love to those we help. I can tell that my sisters truly enjoy helping others and bringing a smile to those around them. Those smiles my sisters bring to others are often larger than our own, and that kind of happiness is what I love. My inspiration to take on this position comes not only from being able to develop my event planning, organizational, and other skills, but from being able to make a difference in a community beyond my sisterhood.

Kate Hidman, Keeper of the Ritual

What inspired you to run for/take on this position?

When I first joined AOII, I never wanted to hold any position. The idea of leading my sisters was terrifying to me. I never thought I could do it. But after being encouraged by my big, I slowly became a leader. As for Keeper of the Ritual, I never thought I could be someone who taught the importance of ritual to our younger sisters—and all sisters. But I love our ritual and how it can connect to women of many different backgrounds. Hopefully, I have done well in contributing to the continued growth of our ritual.

Erin Alexander, Corresponding Secretary

How has AOII helped you grow as a person?

I am so thankful to call AOII my home. AOII has given me a support system full of encouragement and inspiration. The opportunities I have gained from being a part of our chapter have allowed me to grow as a leader and as a friend. Through our sisterhood, I’ve found mentors who help me with life at Transy, as well as on a larger scale. I feel confident that my experience as a member of AOII has already begun to shape me into the person I truly want to be one day. I can’t wait to see what else this amazing organization has in store for me.

Caitlin Raley, Social Chair

What is a valuable lesson you’ve learned by holding this position?

I’ve learned time management. It takes a lot of planning to get a function together, and you can’t start early enough. It has taught me to trust others. I know that if I do something it will turn out just like I want it, but in such a demanding position I’ve had to let others do things even if it means things don’t go exactly as planned. Also, it has reinforced my tendency to roll with the punches to deal with unforeseen hurdles.

Breanna Thompson, Alumnae Relations

How has AOII helped you grow as a person?

Being in this chapter has allowed me to grow in so many ways. I’ve become a much more mature person by being more considerate of others. I have also gained much more confidence in myself which has helped me to find who I really am as a person. I’m not the quiet girl that stands with her arms crossed in the corner anymore, afraid of being judged because I am lucky enough to be surrounded by women that accept me for who I am.

Heather Dillander, Senior Class Delegate

What inspired you to run for/take on this position?

I really wanted to serve my chapter and give back to these girls who have given so much to me, but I knew I needed a position that I could easily manage with the little time I had available. This was a great fit.

If someone is interested in running for your position, what tips or any other information would you give her? How would you encourage her?

Stay on top things. It can easy to miss things. Stay organized and involved. Keep up with your pledge class and how they are all doing.

Haley Williams, Junior Class Delegate

If someone is interested in running for your position, what tips or any other information would you give her? How would you encourage her?

If someone was running for my office, I would remind her that she is not alone. She has a group of amazing women to support her throughout the process of recruitment. Not only does she have this amazing group of women to support her, these wonderful women will play a large role in recruiting more women to spread Alpha Love and continue AOII traditions. And the day when the girls run out to the chapter, with a huge smile on their face because they have fallen in love with the amazing women you call sisters, is one of the greatest experiences in the world.

Abigail Hamilton, Sophomore Class Delegate

How has AOII helped you grow as a person?

AOII has helped me build my confidence. My sisters let me be myself, and they always support me in my endeavors. There is nothing more comforting than knowing I have 80 sisters to help me when I need it.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why? Do you think this would help you with your office?

If I could choose any superpower I would probably want to apparate! That way I don't have to pay for plane tickets and can travel whenever I want. It would be awesome too, because I could take all my sisters to really awesome hooplahs!

Jonica Davis, Intramural Chair

If someone is interested in running for your position, what tips or any other information would you give her? How would you encourage her?

I would tell her to stay confident, you may not have many girls show up for a game, but when our sisters pull through and come out with smiles on their faces, it is very much worth it. Also, always remember that we play for FUN not a free t-shirt, even though that is a nice perk of winning!

Ghazal Jawed, Programming Chair

What is a valuable lesson you have learned by holding this office?

I’ve learned that it is so important not to immediately break down under stress when holding a position (which I am guilty of) because emotions tend to rub off on others. I realized that when you have a committee who is there to help you and you are being negative and down on yourself, they can sometimes take in those bad vibes as well. As a leader, you have to be as strong as you can be, even when you’re going through a tough time. There are people, your sisters, depending on you.

Maria Sawaya, Song Chair

If someone is interested in running for your position, what tips or any other information would you give her? How would you encourage her?

What I would recommend for the next officer in my position, is to keep that in mind. Yes, of course learning lyrics are just as important too and we can always improve (particularly during recruitment time), but keep in mind it’s not the biggest deal in the world if one person messes up as long as they do it with confidence and good intention.

Christina Seaveer, Historian

How has AOII helped you grow as a person?

AOII has helped me realize I do have strengths. Joining AOII has helped me gain the self confidence that I had been lacking for so many years.

Looking back at your freshman self, did you'd ever expect you'd run for an office, especially this one in particular? Have you learned anything (expected or unexpected)?

I always thought I’d be a part of an office at least once, but now I want to be in an office every year for sure! It’s so rewarding to see your work being appreciated by women who you love!

Ana Aguilar, To Dragma Reporter

What is a valuable lesson you have learned by holding this office?

Asking for help is sometimes a necessity. I am not always around at certain events, so I am able to rely on my sisters who were there to experience the awesomeness of said event. I have found that it is very simple to reach out to sisters for help, even if it is for something as petty as a simple picture.
